A CALL FOR PRAYERS OF REPENTANCE

Today, a young gunman opened fire at a South Florida high school, killing multiple people and wounding many others. Today is also Ash Wednesday, a Christian day for peace and the first day of Lent.Lent is a call for repentance that leads up to Easter (Resurrection Sunday). Many Christians of various denominations participate in this call to peace and repentance by placing ashes in the shape of a cross on their foreheads. In Genesis 3:19, we are reminded “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” These sobering words are a response to the sin of Adam and Eve. The consequences of sin still run very deep. Because of sin we all are destined to die. Because of sin, we have hatred, prejudice, murder, rape, fear and all types fo evil. Because of sin many students died or were wounded in today’s school shooting.Today’s event reminds us to repent, pray and seek peace. Let us pray for the families of the victims in South Florida; the young man who perpetrated the crime and for ourselves; that God would have mercy and heal us.
