Daddy can you read me a story? These are the words a small child might say to a parent when a thunderstorm is happening outside his or her bedroom window. If you and I look out of the window of the world today, we will see and feel the storm called COVID-19 and the havoc, fear and panic it is causing much amongst all age groups.
In these unprecedented times, God the Father has a word for us to read and He is speaking words of calm and comfort to us. He is saying, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid” (Matthew 14:27). In other words, He is saying, “No need to worry or be anxious. “I’ve got you.”
In fact, Jesus spoke those very words to Peter and the disciples as they struggled to keep their boat above water in the midst of a storm. He wants us to know that He still walks on wavy waters and He still speaks peace and quiet to storms.
When Jesus came to His disciples, walking on the water, He said “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid”. Boldly, Peter stepped out of the boat and began walking on the water, until he took his focus off of Jesus and focused instead on the winds and waves. Then Peer Egan to sink. Jesus reached out His divine hands of rescue and assured Peter, “I’ve got you.”
He is saying to us today, “Don’t focus on the crisis but keep your focus on Christ. I’ve got you!”
